How to make homemade Ezy-style sauce: key tips
This recipe is very simple to make. It’s just a matter of bringing all the ingredients to a simmer in a saucepan and cooling to room temperature. The mixture is then strained to remove all the spice solids and then poured into sterilised jars and sealed. The recipe makes about 375ml (1 1/2 cups).
Key ingredients in this homemade Ezy-style sauce recipe
“Ezy-Sauce was a convenient condiment that could replace the vinegar and spices in your recipe,” says Amira.
The ingredients used in this recipe were chosen to try and replicate the flavour of Ezy sauce as closely as possible. “Although this recipe uses apple cider vinegar, you can play around with different vinegars, such as malt vinegar, white vinegar or white wine vinegar,” she says. “You can also experiment with your favourite spices.”
Try this Ezy-style sauce in a tangy tomato relish or the highly rated Grandma’s tomato sauce. This plum sauce is also divine.

Recipe Notes
How long will my homemade Ezy-style sauce keep for?
This sauce should last in the fridge in sterilised jars for a couple of months. Once the sauce is used for cooking, we recommend you store your cooked relishes etc in sterilised jars in the fridge as well.
How can I use this homemade Ezy-style sauce?
This Ezy-style sauce can be used similarly to the original for enhancing relishes, sauces and chutneys, including barbecue or Worcestershire sauce and fruit chutneys. Please note that we did not have access to the original Wilds Ezy-Sauce recipe when creating this version, so are in no way claiming that this is exactly the same as the Heinz version. Bear this in mind when using it to create relishes and chutneys that you hope to preserve for an extended period of time, for food safety reasons.
We recommend you use our version of Ezy-Sauce in cooked relishes, chutneys and sauces only, so that you cook off any impurities. Remember:
- Always store your cooked relishes, chutneys and sauces in sterilised jars in the fridge.
- Storing times will vary according to each recipe.
