Great winter's potato pie.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbs canola oil
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 carrot chopped large
  • 500 g lean beef mince
  • 2 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbs tomato paste
  • 2 tsp mixed herbs
  • 1 cup beef stock (liquid)
  • 1 cup frozen peas

Topping

  • 1 kg potato chopped peeled
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbs butter
  • 1/2 cup cheese grated

Method

  • Step 1
    Heat canola oil in a large saucepan on medium-low heat.
  • Step 2
    Saute onions and carrots until softened.
  • Step 3
    Turn heat up high, add beef and cook until lightly browned.
  • Step 4
    Add Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, herbs and broth.
  • Step 5
    Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Add peas, simmer another 5 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Add more water if needed or if too watery add some cornflour mixed in water, stirring until mixed well.
  • Step 8
    Cook potatoes while sauce is simmering, drain and mash with butter and milk until creamy.
  • Step 9
    Pour into a 28 cm x 18 cm baking dish and allow to cool slightly.
  • Step 10
    Top with potatoes, sprinkle with cheese.
  • Step 11
    Bake at 180C until top is golden.
