Great winter's potato pie.
Ingredients
- 1 tbs canola oil
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 carrot chopped large
- 500 g lean beef mince
- 2 tbs Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbs tomato paste
- 2 tsp mixed herbs
- 1 cup beef stock (liquid)
- 1 cup frozen peas
Topping
- 1 kg potato chopped peeled
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbs butter
- 1/2 cup cheese grated
Method

Step 1Heat canola oil in a large saucepan on medium-low heat.

Step 2Saute onions and carrots until softened.

Step 3Turn heat up high, add beef and cook until lightly browned.

Step 4Add Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, herbs and broth.

Step 5Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes.

Step 6Add peas, simmer another 5 minutes.

Step 7Add more water if needed or if too watery add some cornflour mixed in water, stirring until mixed well.

Step 8Cook potatoes while sauce is simmering, drain and mash with butter and milk until creamy.

Step 9Pour into a 28 cm x 18 cm baking dish and allow to cool slightly.

Step 10Top with potatoes, sprinkle with cheese.

Step 11Bake at 180C until top is golden.
