This apple slab pie is a delicious combination of my family's favourites, based on my Mum's grated apple pies.
Ingredients
- 2 Granny Smith apples grated
- 2 tbs honey
- 25 g walnuts chopped *to taste
- 1 sheet Pampas puff pastry
- 1 tbs caster sugar *optional
Method
-
Step 1Peel and grate the apples. Drain well, but retain the juice.
-
Step 2Add the chopped walnuts and honey to the apples and stir well.
-
Step 3Thaw puff pastry sheet and then cut in half. Place half the apple, honey and walnut mixture on one half of the sheet at one end, leaving approximately an inch around the 3 edges.
-
Step 4Moisten the edges of the pastry sheet and then fold it over to cover the filling. Make sure to firmly crimp each edge.
-
Step 5Brush the slab pie with some of the retained apple juice and sprinkle on sugar (if desired). Cut 3 slashes in the top and place into a hot oven for approx 20-30 minutes.
Recipe Notes
You can omit, or add any flavouring you wish to the apple. It's also great with raisins and cinnamon, or with rum instead of honey.
