This hearty bowl of smoky baked beans is the perfect winter dish. Serve it up with toasty, buttery bread for a nourishing bowl of beans that will warm your tummy.
Ingredients
- 200g smoky bacon, finely sliced
- 1 red onion, finely diced
- 4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
- 1 heaped tablespoon smoked paprika
- Small handful of fresh basil, chopped
- 2 sprigs thyme
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 x 400g tin cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 x 400g tin butter beans, drained and rinsed
- 700ml passata
Method

Step 1Heat a little olive oil in a pan over medium heat and add the onion, garlic and bacon. Saute until the onions are soft and translucent.

Step 2Add the paprika, basil, thyme and honey and stir to combine.

Step 3Add the beans and season with salt and pepper.

Step 4Add the passata and turn the heat down to a low simmer. Cook gently for 30-40 minutes, gently stirring occasionally to prevent the beans sticking to the bottom.

Step 5Top with some fresh basil or cayenne pepper and serve with crusty bread.
