This melt-in-your-mouth beef in Asian-inspired spices is made in the slow cooker so you can come home to dinner cooked for you!
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 kg chuck beef steak, fat trimmed
- 3 tbs oil
- 2 onions
- 1 tsp ginger minced
- 3 tsp garlic minced
- 1 tsp ground coriander dried
- 2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- 2 star anises
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- 100g Woolworths Essentials Brown Sugar
- 100ml soy sauce
- 2 tbs tomato paste
- 250ml beef stock (liquid)
Method

Step 1Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large saucepan and brown the beef. Remove from heat and transfer to a plate.

Step 2Combine onions, ginger, garlic and coriander in a small bowl.

Step 3Heat the remaining oil in the same saucepan and fry onion mix until softened, adding a splash of water to scrape up any beef bits from pan.

Step 4Stir in the five spice, star anise and peppercorns, cook for 1 minute. Add the sugar, soy sauce and tomato paste.

Step 5Return the beef and any juices back to the pan and pour in the beef stock. Bring to the boil then add to the slow cooker.

Step 6Cook for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low.
