Transform a traditional family tuna pasta bake and take it to the next level by adding a crispy potato gem topping.
Ingredients
- 400g spiral pasta
- 1 tbs oil
- 30g butter
- 1 brown onion, finely diced
- 3 tbs plain flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1 cup grated tasty cheese, plus extra
- 425g tin tuna in oil, drained
- 500g potato gems
- A pinch of salt and pepper, to taste
Method

Step 1Cook pasta according to packet instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 2Preheat oven to 200C. Grease a large casserole dish.

Step 3Heat oil and butter in a large saucepan. Add onion and cook over medium heat for 4 minutes until soft. Stir though flour and allow to cook for 1 minute. Gradually add milk, whisking to create a smooth sauce. Simmer for 2 - 3 minutes to thicken slightly. Season well with salt and pepper, then stir through cheese. Add tuna and cooked pasta, and stir to combine.

Step 4Pour pasta mix into prepared casserole dish. Top with potato gems and sprinkle over a little extra cheese.

Step 5Bake for 20 minutes or until potato gems are golden and crispy.
Recipe Notes
Enjoy with a side salad.
You can replace the cup of milk with a cup of cream for an indulgent dish.
You can prepare this dish ahead and keep it in the fridge. Once you’re ready to bake, add an extra 10 - 20 minutes to the cooking time to ensure the pasta is hot all the way through.
