A valued old family recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 tbs salt
- 2 tsp butter melted
- 5 cup plain flour
- 1 tbs dry yeast
Method

Step 1In a large mixing bowl, pour 2 cups of boiling water over oats and allow to stand for 2 hours.

Step 2Sprinkle yeast in ½ cup of lukewarm water. Let it stand for 10 minutes and add to oats with molasses and salt.

Step 3Stir in butter and flour until well blended.

Step 4Cover and allow to rise in a warm place for 1½ hours.

Step 5Punch the dough down and divide into 2.

Step 6Form 2 loaves and place each into a greased 23 x 13 cm loaf pan.

Step 7Allow to rise in a warm place for 40 minutes or until doubled in size.

Step 8Bake at 190c for 40-45 minutes.

Recipe Notes
When bread is done it will be brown and sound hollow when tapped. All of your friends will want this recipe. I used black strap molasses.
