Ingredients
- 250 g unsalted butter chopped
- 200 g dark chocolate chopped
- 2 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1/2 cup self-raising flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 2 egg lightly beaten
Icing
- 100 g dark chocolate chopped
- 2 tbs thickened cream
Method

Step 1Preheat oven to 170C and lightly grease and line a 23 cm round cake tin or a 24 cm square tin.

Step 2Place butter and chocolate in a pan, stir over moderate heat until melted and combined.

Step 3Add sugar and hot water, stir until combined. Allow to cool.

Step 4Sift flours and cocoa into a bowl, add the cooled butter mixture and mix lightly.

Step 5Add eggs and combine thoroughly. Pour into prepared tin and bake until a skewer inserted into cake comes out clean. 1 hour and 25 minutes if using a round tin or 1 hour and 10 minutes for a square tin.

Step 6Stand for 5 minutes and turn onto rack to cool.

Step 7Icing: Put cream and chocolate into pan. Stir until chocolate is melted and mixed with cream. Cool slightly, then spread over cake.

Step 8Decorate with grated chocolate and serve with cream topped with chocolate shavings.
