Nice for dessert as well as afternoon tea. Mincemeat is usually a mixture of dried fruit, spirits and spices.
Ingredients
- 250 g self-raising flour
- 125 g margarine
- 125 g caster sugar
- 1 bunch egg beaten
- 2 tbs milk
- 1 fruit mince
- 1 pinch brown sugar
Method

Step 1Sift flour and rub in margarine until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar.

Step 2Add egg and enough milk to make a fairly stiff dough. Divide in half and roll out each piece to approximately 22 x 12 cm.

Step 3Place one piece on greased baking tray. Then spread generously with the mincemeat to within 1.5 cm of edges.

Step 4Place other piece on top, damping the edges and sealing firmly.

Step 5Lightly mark edges with a fork.

Step 6Brush top with milk and sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake in centre of a 190C oven for 15 minutes.
Recipe Notes
For serving cut into 5 cm squares with cream or ice cream.
