Ingredients
- 2 slices bread
- 3/4 cup milk
- 500 g pork mince
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 pinch pepper
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 1/2 onion finely chopped
- 8 slices 98% fat-free bacon rashers
- 2 tbs butter
- 1/2 cup milk
Method
-
Step 1Crumble the bread and soak in ¼ cup milk. Squeeze bread as dry as possible and combine with minced pork or sausage mince, salt, pepper, nutmeg and onion. Knead mixture until well blended.
-
Step 2Form 4 cylinders 8 cm long and wrap 2 slices of bacon around each cylinder cross-wise. Tie at intervals with thread or skewers to secure bacon.
-
Step 3Heat butter in a frying pan and fry the cylinders over medium heat for 8 minutes. Turn and fry another 8 minutes. Remove from pan and keep warm.
-
Step 4Pour the accumulated fat out of the pan. Add milk to the pan and cook over high heat, scraping up the browned pieces on the bottom of the pan. If desired, thicken gravy with a little flour.
-
Step 5Serve with mashed potatoes, salad and gravy if desired.
Recipe Notes
Use 2 day old sliced bread. These are also nice for a snack on a party or BBQ.
