Ingredients

  • 225 g dark chocolate
  • 85 g butter
  • 4 egg
  • 300 g sugar
  • 140 g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla essence

Plain mixture

  • 55 g butter brought to room temperature
  • 170 g cream cheese
  • 100 g sugar
  • 2 egg
  • 30 g plain flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 115 g walnuts chopped

Method

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 180C. Grease and line a 33 x 23 cm tin.
  • Step 2
    Chocolate mixture: Melt chocolate and butter over low heat stirring constantly. Set aside to cool.
  • Step 3
    Beat the eggs until light and fluffy, gradually add sugar and continue beating until blended.
  • Step 4
    Sift over the flour, salt and baking powder, and fold to combine.
  • Step 5
    Stir in the cooled chocolate mixture. Add vanilla and walnuts. Measure and set aside 450 mL of the chocolate mixture.
  • Step 6
    Plain mixture: Cream the butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer.
  • Step 7
    Add sugar and continue beating until blended. Beat in the eggs, flour and vanilla.
  • Step 8
    Spread the unmeasured chocolate mixture in the tin. Pour over the plain mixture. Drop spoonfuls of the reserved chocolate mixture on top.
  • Step 9
    With a metal palette knife swirl the mixtures to marble. Do not blend completely.
  • Step 10
    Bake until just set, approximately 35-40 minutes. Turn out to cool on wire rack.
