This simple recipe is perfect for the tops of orange cakes or slices, and is a lovely touch at an afternoon tea table.
Ingredients
- 2 oranges, sliced
- 4 cups water, divided
- 2 cups sugar
- Extra sugar, for dusting
Method

Step 1Place 2 cups of water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Add orange slices and boil for 3 minutes. Remove slices with a slotted spoon nd place in a bowl of ice water. Discard the water in the saucepan.

Step 2Add the remaining 2 cups of water to the saucepan. Add the sugar and bring to the boil. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved.

Step 3Use the slotted spoon to add the orange slices back to the sugar and water mix. Simmer gently on low for 45 minutes.

Step 4Remove the orange slices one by one and place on a cooling rack. Leave to dry for 24 hours.

Step 5Dip the slices in sugar and store them in a tupperware or plastic container in the fridge. Use within a month.
