Ingredients

  • 15 g butter
  • 15 ml water
  • 1 egg
  • 45 ml milk
  • 30 g sugar
  • 200 g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence *to taste
  • 200 g golden syrup *to taste

Method

  • Step 1
    Grease a steamer. Place water on to boil in a large pot.
  • Step 2
    Heat butter and water together.
  • Step 3
    Beat egg and sugar until creamy and volume has increased. Mix in milk and vanilla. Fold in sifted flour. Add butter and water mixture, mix until smooth.

  • Step 4
    Place jam or syrup into bottom of steamer. Add pudding mixture.
  • Step 5
    Cover and place steamer into boiling water. Steam for 30-35 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Serve with custard, cream or ice-cream.

Recipe Notes

Jam can substitute golden syrup.
