Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 kg red cabbage thinly sliced
  • 3 tbs white vinegar
  • 2 Granny Smith apples chopped cored peeled
  • 1 1/2 tbs sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper *to taste
  • 30 g butter
  • 1 1/2 tbs cornflour

Method

  • Step 1
    Cook cabbage in little water, salt, cloves and apples.
  • Step 2
    Bring to boil then stew for 45 minutes or until cooked to taste.
  • Step 3
    Mix in the butter, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle in the cornflour, stirring all the time.
  • Step 4
    Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring often.
Recipe Notes

Adjust the vinegar, sugar and cornflour to taste.

This goes well with European meatballs and boiled potatoes. You can also serve it with mashed potatoes.
