Ingredients

  • 500 g beef mince
  • 2 onion diced
  • 250 g smoked bacon diced
  • 800 g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 garlic clove
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1 tbs mixed herbs
  • 1 pinch fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 carrot grated
  • 2 zucchini grated
  • 2 tbs tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce

Method

  • Step 1
    Fry off bacon and onion. Add mince, garlic and herbs, except the parsley. Cook until browned.
  • Step 2
    Add tomato paste, sauces, tomatoes, carrot and zucchini.
  • Step 3
    Simmer for 15 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer until thickened.
Recipe Notes
I stick blend the tinned tomatoes a little to break them up. For chilli I will also add a finely diced chilli when I add all the other herbs. For shepherd's pie I pour into a baking dish top with mash and bake for 15 minutes with a light dusting of grated cheese.
