This recipe has been a great favourite of the family for many years and is made every year when preserving time comes around ready for the winter months. This recipe was passed on to me by my late mother. It has a great taste and is much better than the bought tinned spaghetti. Lovely for lunch or tea.

- 1 1/2 kg brown onion chopped
- 500 g spaghetti
- 1 cup sugar
- 250 g butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
Method
-
Step 1Using a large saucepan, add spaghetti to boiling salted water. Cook until soft, drain in a colander.
-
Step 2Place tomatoes and onion in a large saucepan.
-
Step 3Add butter, bring to a boil and cook until pulped.
-
Step 4Add spaghetti to tomatoes and onions, stir in sugar, salt and pepper.
-
Step 5Boil for 30 minutes.
-
Step 6Pour into warm jars while mixture is hot then seal.
Equipment
- 1 saucepan

Recipe Notes
If desired, the tomatoes and onions can be pushed through seive and then returned to the pot. Jars should be sterilised by heating in the oven, and rubber jar seals brought to a boil in water to sterilise.
