Ingredients

  • 8 1/2 tbs butter
  • 1 1/2 cup self-raising flour
  • 1.6 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 500 g pitted dates

Method

  • Step 1
Beat the butter in a bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Step 2
Add the flour, oatmeal, brown sugar and eggs, knead into a smooth dough.
  • Step 3
Chop dates finely, reserving a few dates for garnish. Press half the dough into a well buttered 20 cm cake pan. Sprinkle with the chopped dates and cover with remaining dough. Top with reserved dates.
  • Step 4
Bake in a preheated 190C oven for about 1 hour.
  • Step 5
Let the "pie" cool in the pan. Serve with sherry flavoured whipped cream.
Recipe Notes
If you haven't any oatmeal place 2 cups of oats in the blender and blend until fine.
