This one is nice accompanied with Irish coffee.
Ingredients
- 8 1/2 tbs butter
- 1 1/2 cup self-raising flour
- 1.6 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg lightly beaten
- 500 g pitted dates
Method

Step 1Beat the butter in a bowl until light and fluffy.

Step 2Add the flour, oatmeal, brown sugar and eggs, knead into a smooth dough.

Step 3Chop dates finely, reserving a few dates for garnish. Press half the dough into a well buttered 20 cm cake pan. Sprinkle with the chopped dates and cover with remaining dough. Top with reserved dates.

Step 4Bake in a preheated 190C oven for about 1 hour.

Step 5Let the "pie" cool in the pan. Serve with sherry flavoured whipped cream.
Recipe Notes
If you haven't any oatmeal place 2 cups of oats in the blender and blend until fine.
