While there are many recipes for beef chow mein out there, it seems this one has really hit the spot. Sure, it’s flavour-packed and easy on the budget, but by reading the reviews it seems that this recipe tugs at the heart strings a bit as well. This chow mein recipe appears to be one that many of you grew up with and have handed down to further generations.

How to make chow mein: key tips

Make sure you get the mince really brown; you want to completely seal it to bring out the full beefy flavour. So you want the pan to be really hot before you add the mince in. You can add the onion at this stage if you want to achieve a slightly sweeter flavour. The dish is ready when the sauce has reduced and thickened and the rice is fully cooked.

What goes into our chow mein recipe?

The secret to the success of this easy chow mein recipe is that it uses a packet of chicken noodle instant soup. If unavailable, you can just use chicken flavoured 2 minute noodles. This adds a punch of flavour that is backed up by the traditional combination of soy and tomato sauces. We say to use beef mince but you could also use pork or chicken.

If you want to take your chow mein in a different direction, try our easy fritter recipe or how about this chow mein recipe that’s made completely in the microwave!
