It's very tasty, takes a while, but my husband loves this one!
Ingredients
- 800 g beef chuck steak, cubed
- 3 short-cut bacon rashers chopped
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 carrots chopped
- 2 cup button mushrooms sliced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/3 cup red wine
- 420 g can condensed tomato soup
- 1 sheet puff pastry defrosted
Method

Step 1Preheat the oven to 160C.

Step 2Grease a large pan and brown the beef in batches. Set beef aside.

Step 3Add bacon and onion to pan and fry until onion becomes soft.

Step 4Add carrots and mushrooms and fry for about 2 minutes.

Step 5Return beef to pan with bay leaf, red wine and soup.

Step 6Bring to a simmer, cover with lid and place in the oven for 1 ½ hours.

Step 7Increase oven to 180C.

Step 8Place the pastry over the surface of the meat and tuck around the meat.

Step 9Glaze the top with milk.

Step 10Bake for approximately 30 minutes.

Step 11Serve with beans and mashed potato.

- 1 frying pan
Recipe Notes
Not difficult to make but takes a while. I use beef stock in place of the red wine if no red wine available. Use chuck steak or gravy beef.
