It is perfect for a Sunday snack. Very quick and easy to make.
Ingredients
- 1 red apple
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup Pauls thick vanilla custard
- 4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 tbs brown sugar
Method
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 190C.
-
Step 2In a saucepan, boil 1/2 litre of water with 1 cup of brown sugar.
-
Step 3Cut the apple in half, core and slice into thin slices. Place sliced apple into boiling water and cook for 10 minutes or until apples are soft.
-
Step 4Cut the 20x20cm square puff pastry sheet into 5 long strips about 4cm x 20cm. Spread over a thin layer of thick vanilla custard.
-
Step 5Drain the apple slices and place on paper towel to absorb the water. Allow to cool.
-
Step 6Arrange the cooled apple slices on the top half of each square of puff pastry, layering in a row with the red skin of apple facing the top of pastry. Leave 1cm space at the bottom of the pastry sheet.
-
Step 7Fold the bottom 1cm of puff pastry over the apple and start rolling your apple rose.
-
Step 8Place the apple rose in a muffin tray. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cinnamon over the top of each rose.
-
Step 9Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of brown sugar on the top of each apple rose.
-
Step 10Allow apple roses to slightly cool. Serve with thick vanilla custard.
