Did you know that many breadmakers have jam settings? Making jam in a breadmaker is a great way to use an appliance for more than one purpose. Also, this makes it easy to make jam in small batches. If you don't know what to with over-ripe fruit, make homemade jam!
Ingredients
- 400g peaches (without stones and skin)
- 1 1/4 cups white sugar
- 1 tablespoon Jamsetta or homemade pectin
Method
-
Step 1Sterilize a 385g jam jar by washing in a dishwasher. Alternatively, wash in hot soapy water and place it in the oven between 160C and 180C for 15 minutes.
-
Step 2To remove the skins from the peaches, cut a criss-cross shape on their base and blanche them in boiling water for around 10 sections. Remove and place into cold water. Peel when cool.
-
Step 3Cut the peeled peaches and chop into small pieces.
-
Step 4Place the diced peaches, sugar and pectin into the breadmaker. Press the jam setting. Then, make dinner, read a book, or go for a walk.
-
Step 5When the breadmaker beeps, carefully pour the jam into the sterilized jar and put the lid on immediately.
Recipe Notes
If you have a thermo-cooker, you can cook this jam at 100C on speed 2 for 60 minutes. You can also cook this conventionally on a stovetop, but it works better if you double or triple the recipe.
