Like a combination of custard slice and a classic trifle, this strawberry jelly dessert slice is perfect for parties.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tbs Grand Marnier
- 250 g Savoiardi sponge finger biscuits
- 250 g fresh strawberries halved
- 85 g strawberry jelly
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup cold water
Strawberry custard
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup caster sugar
- 1 tbs strawberry jam
- 1 tsp orange rind grated
- 1/3 cup custard powder
Method

Step 1Line base and sides of a 23 cm square slab pan with foil. Combine milk and liqueur in a small bowl.

Step 2Dip each biscuit into the milk mixture, arrange biscuits in a single layer over the base of the prepared pan.

Step 3Strawberry custard: Combine 1¾ cups of the milk with the sugar, jam and rind in a medium saucepan, stir over heat until the sugar has dissolved.

Step 4Blend the custard powder with the remaining milk in a small bowl, stir into the pan, stir over medium heat until the mixture boils and thickens.

Step 5Cover and cool to room temperature.

Step 6Pour the custard over the biscuits, arrange strawberries over the custard, refrigerate until the custard is set.

Step 7Dissolve the jelly crystals in boiling water in a medium bowl, stir in the cold water, refrigerate until almost set.

Step 8Carefully pour the jelly over the strawberries, cover and refrigerate overnight, or until set.
Recipe Notes
This slice can be made a day ahead.
Keep covered in the refrigerator.
Slice is unsuitable to freeze.
