These rissoles are crisp on the outside and very moist on the inside. Very simple yet very flavourful, they will become a regular in your household - kids love them too. - jezzamiff

Ingredients

  • 500 g beef mince
  • 1 brown onion
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 3 egg
  • 1 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 2 tbs tomato sauce
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper
  • 1 dried chillies optional
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

Gravy

  • 2 tbs plain flour
  • 2 beef stock cube
  • 1 tbs balsamic vinegar
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper

Method

  • Step 1
    Gently fry onion over medium heat for about 5 minutes or until translucent, add garlic and cook for 2 minutes more.

    In a large bowl combine mince, onion and garlic, dried chilli, tomato sauce and egg yolk.
  • Step 3
    Add remaining eggs, one at a time, incorporating into mixture between additions.
  • Step 4
    Mixture should be very moist and quite sloppy. If needed, add extra eggs to achieve this consistency.
  • Step 5
    Add breadcrumbs until the mixture just holds together.
  • Step 6
    With wet hands, fashion into balls and roll in seasoned flour.
  • Step 7
    To cook, heat olive oil on a medium heat in a heavy based pan and cook rissoles slowly, turning once, until cooked through.
  • Step 8
    Remove from pan.
  • Step 9
    Gravy: Add flour to pan, stir quickly, and pour in 2 cups of water.
  • Step 10
    Crumble in stock cubes and whisk until sauce comes to the boil.
  • Step 11
    Season liberally with salt and pepper and a generous dash of balsamic vinegar.
Recipe Notes

Serve with mashed potato and vegetables. If you have time, it is a good idea to refrigerate the rissoles before you cook them.
