This is a great way to feed a crowd of hungry teenagers - serve up a big dish of pull-apart beef burger sliders.
Ingredients
- 800g beef mince
- 2 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried Italian herbs
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 onions, sliced
- 15 round dinner rolls
- 1/3 cup tomato sauce, extra
- 2 cups grated cheese
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
Method
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 180C/160C. In a large bowl, combine mince, sauces, herbs and plenty of salt and pepper. Using clean hands, mix very well, then form into 15 golfball-sized balls.
-
Step 2Heat 1tbsp oil in a frypan. Add 4-5 meat patties and flatten with the back of a spatula. Cook for 2 minutes each side until just cooked through.
-
Step 3Meanwhile, in a separate pan, heat remaining oil and cook onions for 5 minutes over gentle heat until starting to brown.
-
Step 4Try to keep the dinner rolls joined together as a slab, and slice them in half horizontally. Place the bottle halves in a deep baking dish that holds them all snugly. Place a cooked beef patty on each roll, top with 1-2 tsp tomato sauce, then add some cooked onions and plenty of grated cheese. Carefully replace top halves of bread rolls on top. Bake for 5 minutes, then remove from oven and brush with melted butter. Return to the oven for a further 5 minutes.
-
Step 5Serve in the baking dish and allow everyone to pull apart their own slider.
Recipe Notes
For maximum pull-apart-ability, try to buy dinner rolls that are sold joined together. I found them in the bakery section at the supermarket. Don’t worry if they are fully or partially separated - just ease them into the dish so they fit really snugly, and use lots of grated cheese that will melt and stick them all together.
