There's no need to share with these individual traditional apple pies that can be made in your pie maker. Serve them with a scoop of ice cream for a dessert you can't resist. - Greer Worsley

Ingredients

  • 1kg Granny Smith apples
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar, plus extra to sprinkle
  • 2 sheets frozen shortcrust pastry, defrosted
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, defrosted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Vanilla ice cream, to serve

Method

  • Step 1
    Peel, core and dice apples. Place in saucepan with orange zest, cinnamon and 1/4 cup water. Cover and cook over medium heat for 8 minutes until soft. Remove from heat and stir through sugar.
  • Step 2
    Preheat pie maker according to manufacturer’s instructions. Cut out 4 large rounds of shortcrust pastry and line base of plates. Fill with cooked apple mixture.
  • Step 3
    Cut 4 smaller rounds of puff pastry and place on top of the apples. Close lid of pie maker and cook for 6 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Open lid and brush tops of pies with beaten egg. Sprinkle with extra sugar. Close lid and cook for a further 2 minutes until golden.
  • Step 5
    Repeat with remaining ingredients to make four more. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
