Creamy Diane sauce is traditionally served over steak, but it’s equally delicious over these yummy, wallet-friendly beef patties.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 brown onion, finely diced
- 100g mushrooms, finely diced
- 500g beef mince
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely grated
- 1 sprig thyme leaves
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup Woolworths Thickened Cream
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1-2 tbsp oil, extra
For Diane sauce:
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 20g butter
- 1/2 brown onion, finely diced
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 275ml cream
- 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
Method
-
Step 1Heat oil in a large frypan over medium heat. Cook onion for 3 minutes until soft. Add mushrooms and continue cooking until soft. Season well with salt and pepper. Remove to a bowl and allow to cool slightly.
-
Step 2Add remaining ingredients, except extra oil, to bowl with plenty of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly and form into 8 patties. Wipe out frypan, then place back over medium heat. Add extra oil and cook patties for 5 minutes each side. Keep warm in oven while you make sauce.
-
Step 3To make sauce, place oil and butter in a small saucepan over gentle heat. Cook onion and garlic for 3 minutes until soft, stirring continuously. Add Worcestershire sauce and allow to bubble up and simmer for 2 minutes until reduced. Pour in cream and mustard and stir well. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes until thick and darkened in colour.
-
Step 4Serve patties with Diane sauce and steamed green veggies on the side.
Recipe Notes
These would be delicious as burger patties inside a soft bun with cooked onions and baby spinach.
