This cake is very easy to make and uses ingredients that most people have in the pantry.
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cup plain flour
- 1 1/2 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 egg
- 1 cup ground coffee
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Method

Step 1Preheat oven to 160C (or 150C for fan forced). Grease and line a 23 cm round cake pan.

Step 2In large bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the centre.

Step 3Add eggs, coffee, milk, oil and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. Batter will be thin.

Step 4Pour into prepared pan. Bake for approximately 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted into centre of cake comes out clean.

Step 5Cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and finish cooling on a wire rack.
Recipe Notes
Make brewed coffee by mixing 250 mL of hot water with one teaspoon of ground coffee.
