Ingredients

  • 250g butter, softened
  • 200g white sugar
  • 200g Nutella spread
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 1/2 cup plain yoghurt
  • 100g plain flour
  • 150g self-raising flour

Nutella butter icing

  • 250g butter (soft)
  • 1 cup Nutella (around 280g or just over half a 400g jar)
  • 4 cups (approximately) icing mixture
  • A dash of milk to mix

Method

  • Step 1
Preheat the oven to 170 C.
  • Step 2
Using a wooden spoon, cream together the butter and white sugar until creamy. Add the Nutella and cocoa, and mix until combined.
  • Step 3
Add the eggs, one at a time, and then mix the yoghurt in gently. Add the plain flour and self-raising flour, mixing until combined.
  • Step 4
Grease and line a heart shaped pan (or around 20cm round cake tin). Pour the mixture into the pan and smooth the top. Bake for around 45 minutes or until cooked. Allow to cool.
  • Step 5
To prepare the Nutella butter icing, beat the butter, Nutella and icing mixture together until smooth. Add a few tablespoons of milk (as necessary) to obtain the desired consistency. Spread the icing over the cake.
Recipe Notes

This is quite a dense cake so it may take longer than 45 minutes.
