Moist and delicious by itself, or sliced and buttered.
Ingredients
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup dates chopped
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
- 2 tbs butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 3/4 cup self-raising flour
- 1 egg beaten well
Method

Step 1Cook dates, butter, sugar and bicarbonate of soda in saucepan with boiling water for 3 minutes. Allow to cool.

Step 2Add egg, walnuts and flour and combine well.

Step 3Pour into loaf tin and bake for 45 minutes at 160C.

This was delicious when I was a kid and I am still making it now 40 years later. Tastes even better the next day.
