Are mashed potatoes healthy?

Mashed potato can be healthy, depending on what you add to them. Butter, cheese, egg yolks and milk will increase the fat- and calorie-content of your mash, so leave them out or keep them to a minimum if you prefer.

What should I serve with mashed potatoes?

Mashed potato is a versatile side that works well with many things. Sausages, steak and chicken schnitzel are classic choices. Other ideas include meatloaf, stuffed mushrooms and beef casserole, plus mashed potato is the topping for shepherd's pie and cottage pie.

Spring onion can substitute shallot.
