A favourite dish made with beef and mushrooms.
Ingredients
- 4 tbs plain flour
- 500g beef sirloin steak, cut into strips
- 2 tbs butter
- 1 1/2 cup mushrooms thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup onion chopped
- 1 garlic clove minced
- 1 1/4 cups beef stock (liquid)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tbs sherry
- 1 tbs tomato paste
Method

Step 1Combine 1 tablespoon flour with some salt and dredge meat in mixture.

Step 2Melt some butter in a frypan.

Step 3Add meat and brown on all sides.

Step 4Add mushrooms, onions and garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until nearly tender.

Step 5Remove the meat mixture and add 2 tablespoons butter to the same pan.

Step 6When the butter has melted add flour and tomato paste.

Step 7Cook slowly and pour in beef stock, cooking until thickened.

Step 8Return meat mixture to pan, then add sour cream and sherry.

Step 9Serve with rice or noodles.
Recipe Notes
My grandmother always put more sherry in and there were never any leftovers for the next day. My kids also loved this one. Use any kind of steak. Sour cream can be substituted with light carnation milk with a dash of vinegar.
