A quick and easy bread to make that has a nice golden crust. Good on its own or with butter and your favourite filling. I use it as a side dish for any meal but my family love it with breakfast, stews and curries.
Ingredients
- 1 cup self-raising flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 salt *to taste
Method
-
Step 1Add flour and salt to a bowl, and mix in liquid until a dough forms.
-
Step 2Remove from bowl, sprinkle flour on a board and roll or flatten out until approximately 5 mm thick.
-
Step 3Cut dough into 5 cm squares. Heat oil or dripping in a fry pan until hot.
-
Step 4Pick up each square, stretch gently then add to pan.
-
Step 5Squares will raise up very quickly, then flip over and cook until golden on both sides.
-
Step 6Keep warm in oven until ready to eat.
Recipe Notes
My family love it with butter and Vegemite or jam. I love it with puha (sow thistle) and pork bones.
