Ingredients

  • 3 cups yellow split peas washed
  • 7 cups water
  • 1 onion diced large
  • 5 garlic cloves chopped
  • 4 red chillies chopped
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbs ghee

Method

  • Step 1
    Place peas and water into a pressure cooker, when hot, add salt, curry powder and turmeric.
  • Step 2
    Stir then place lid on, bring up to medium pressure and once at pressure cook for 25 minutes.
  • Step 3
    In a separate large saucepan, fry onion in ghee or oil until soft.

  • Step 4
    Add garlic, cumin and chilli, and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring.
  • Step 5
    Release pressure on pressure cooker after 25 minutes then add pea soup to onion mixture in saucepan.
  • Step 6
    Mix well and serve.

Equipment

  • 1 pressure cooker
Recipe Notes

You can use oil or ghee.

This may need thinning down with water as it can be quite thick.
