Ingredients

  • 1 kg beef mince
  • 1 brown onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic clove grated
  • 400 g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 400 g can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 tbs tomato paste
  • 1 cup chicken stock (liquid)
  • 2 tsp Vegemite
  • 2 tsp sugar *to taste
  • 300 g instant lasagne sheets
  • 500 g bechamel sauce
  • 2 cup tasty cheese grated

Method

  • Step 1
    In a large saucepan on medium heat, sauté onion and garlic until transparent. Add beef mince and cook until brown.
  • Step 2
    Add stock, crushed tomatoes, tomato soup, tomato paste, Vegemite and sugar. Bring to the boil and simmer uncovered for 1½ to 2 hours or until liquid has reduced by half.
  • Step 3
    Allow the sauce to rest for 15 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Meanwhile, line a rectangular baking dish with baking paper and preheat oven to 180C.
  • Step 5
    Layer lasagne starting with a small amount of sauce at the bottom followed by an even layer of lasagne sheets, making sure to put layers all the way to the edge.
  • Step 6
    Add bechamel sauce, a sprinkle of cheese then lasagna sheets again. Repeat layers until all the sauce has been used up.
  • Step 7
    Top with a generous amount of bechamel sauce and cover with tasty cheese.
  • Step 8
    Bake for 45 minutes.
Recipe Notes

Allow lasagna to rest for 15 minutes or more before cutting it into slices.
