Chocolate cake with butter cream.
Ingredients
- 125 g butter softened
- 3/4 cup caster sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/4 cups self-raising flour
- 2 tbs custard powder
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup water
Butter cream
- 125 g butter
- 1 1/3 cups icing sugar sifted
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tbs milk
Method

Step 1Preheat oven to 180C and grease a deep 23 cm round cake tin.

Step 2Place butter, sugar, eggs, flour, custard powder and cocoa in mixing bowl.

Step 3Add water and mix until well combined.

Step 4Spread evenly in tin and bake for 40 minutes. Turn onto a rack to cool

Step 5Butter cream: Place butter, icing sugar, cocoa and milk in a small bowl.

Step 6Mix until well combined

Step 7Spread over top and sides of the cake.

- 1 23cm non-stick springform pan
Recipe Notes
You can also cut the cake in half and fill the middle with the butter cream as well as over the cake.
