Ingredients

  • 125 g butter softened
  • 3/4 cup caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups self-raising flour
  • 2 tbs custard powder
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup water

Butter cream

  • 125 g butter
  • 1 1/3 cups icing sugar sifted
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tbs milk

Method

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 180C and grease a deep 23 cm round cake tin.
  • Step 2
    Place butter, sugar, eggs, flour, custard powder and cocoa in mixing bowl.
  • Step 3
    Add water and mix until well combined.
  • Step 4
    Spread evenly in tin and bake for 40 minutes. Turn onto a rack to cool
  • Step 5
    Butter cream: Place butter, icing sugar, cocoa and milk in a small bowl.
  • Step 6
    Mix until well combined
  • Step 7
    Spread over top and sides of the cake.

Equipment

  • 1 23cm non-stick springform pan
Recipe Notes
You can also cut the cake in half and fill the middle with the butter cream as well as over the cake.
