Ingredients

  • 115 g butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 100 g pretzels
  • 200 g milk chocolate melts
  • 200 g dark chocolate melts
  • 2 tsp sea salt

Method

  • Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 220˚C.
  • Step 2
Line a baking dish with baking paper. Cover the base of the dish with pretzels.
  • Step 3
Put the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt the butter into the sugar then bring it to the boil. Boil it for 4 - 5 minutes, until it begins to caramelise.
  • Step 4
Pour the caramel toffee mixture over the pretzels. Make sure it's nicely distributed as it will be the 'glue' that holds it all together.
  • Step 5
Place in the oven and bake at 220˚C for five minutes.
  • Step 6
Put the chocolate melts into a glass bowl. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in short 30 second bursts until smooth.
  • Step 7
Pour the melted chocolate over the pretzel/caramel mixture. Spread it around so it covers everything. Sprinkle with salt.
  • Step 8
Refrigerate overnight, or until set hard.
  • Step 9
    Break/crack into pieces and serve.
Recipe Notes

If you want a real 'crack' you could make a classic hard crack toffee and pour it over the pretzels before you add the chocolate.

Whether you prefer milk or dark chocolate, you can choose your 'poison' here. I used a combination of the two, for a richer ganache-style chocolate.

You can also use Ritz crackers instead of the pretzels, but don't forget the sea salt, the saltiness is the best part.
