A brightly coloured sweet treat for a special occasion that makes a great gift!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup popcorn
- 2 tbs vegetable oil
Toffee
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tbs honey
- 50 g butter
Toppings
- 100 g pretzels
- 200 g Mars peanut M&M's
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup hundreds and thousands
Method
-
Step 1Put sugar in a saucepan, add water and stir over a low heat until dissolved.
-
Step 2Add butter and honey, and bring to the boil. Cook without stirring until it reaches 138C degrees, or until it turns a golden brown colour. You can test by dropping teaspoonfuls into a cold glass of water to see if toffee hardens.
-
Step 3While toffee is cooking, make the popcorn. Place oil into a saucepan on high heat, drop a grain in and if it spins slowly, the oil is hot enough. Add popcorn, replace lid and agitate until popping sound slows down.
-
Step 4Place baking paper on a large tray. Cover with popcorn. Break pretzels into pieces over popcorn.
-
Step 5When toffee is ready, wait until the bubbles subside and then drizzle spoonfuls of toffee over the popcorn pretzel mix. Add as much toffee as desired then work quickly to sprinkle M&M's, salt and sprinkles over the top. Allow toffee to set.
-
Step 6Break into pieces and put into cellophane bags, or into jars.
Equipment
- 2 saucepan
Recipe Notes
Be sure to remove any unpopped kernels of corn as they can damage teeth.
Put any remaining toffee into patty cases.
