I make this when I have too many chokos. Great to have with cold meats in sandwiches. This was given to me by an old friend.
Ingredients
- 5 chokoes medium
- 2 onion
- 250 g dates
- 1 cup dried apricots
- 200 g dried apple
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup sultanas
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 3 cup malt vinegar
Method

Step 1Wash, peel and remove seed from chokos.

Step 2Finely chop chokos, onion, dates, apricots, and apples.

Step 3Place in a large saucepan with raisins and sultanas.

Step 4Add sugar, pepper and vinegar.

Step 5Stir over medium heat until sugar has dissolved and bring to boil.

Step 6Reduce heat and simmer uncovered, about 60 minutes or until thick.

Step 7Stir occasionally and remove from heat.

Step 8Stand mixture 5 minutes before spooning into warm sterilised jars and seal.

- 2 glass jar with lid
Recipe Notes
Chutney will store for 2-3 months but should be put into the refrigerator once opened. Also good to sell at fetes or street stores.
