Ingredients

  • 45ml vodka
  • 15ml cherry brandy or kirsch
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla essence
  • 15ml maraschino cherry syrup
  • 45ml cherry juice or other red juice
  • 1 maraschino cherry, to garnish

Method

  • Step 1
Place all of the ingredients, except the cherry garnish, in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Shake vigorously. Pour through a strainer into a martini glass. Cut a small slit in the base of a maraschino cherry and place on the rim of the glass.
Recipe Notes

Maraschino cherry syrup is the liquid in the jar of maraschino cherries. Try to find the bright red ones with the stems still attached - they are usually in bottle shops if not the supermarket.

If you can’t find cherry juice, replace with another red juice such as pomegranate. You will already have a strong cherry flavour from the kirsch and syrup, so you just need the juice for sweetness and colour.

Use your spirit measure to measure the ingredients - one end measures a 30ml nip, the other a 15ml half nip. If you don’t have a spirit measure, a standard teaspoon is 5ml and a standard tablespoon is 20ml.
