Ingredients

  • 1 kg chuck beef steak, cut into pieces large
  • 2 tbs ghee
  • 2 onions chopped
  • 1 garlic clove crushed
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 1 tbs ginger grated
  • 1 tbs ground cumin
  • 1 tbs ground coriander
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder optional *to taste
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 black pepper
  • 400 g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup coconut milk

Method

  • Step 1
    Heat ghee or oil in a large saucepan and sauté onions until translucent.
  • Step 2
    Add garlic, chillies, ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric and chilli powder, if using.

    Stir for a couple of minutes until fragrant.
  • Step 4
    Add beef and cook, stirring over high heat, until well coated with spice mixture.
  • Step 5
    Add salt, pepper and tomatoes.
  • Step 6
    Simmer, covered, for 1½-2 hours or until beef is tender.
  • Step 7
    Stir in coconut milk and simmer, uncovered for a further 5-10 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Garnish with freshly chopped coriander.
Recipe Notes

You can use oil instead of ghee.
