Beef brisket is a cut that requires low, slow cooking. Pop it in the slow cooker with some smoky spices and a tangy barbecue sauce concoction and soon you’ll be tucking into slabs of melt-in-the-mouth meat.
Ingredients
- 2kg Woolworths Beef Brisket
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
Method
-
Step 1Season brisket well with salt and pepper. Combine paprika, garlic powder and cumin in a small bowl and rub all over beef. Heat oil in a large frypan and brown beef well on both sides, then transfer to the bowl of a slow cooker.
-
Step 2Combine remaining ingredients in a small jug with any leftover spice mixture. Pour over brisket in the slow cooker. Cover with lid and cook on high for 5-6 hours until very tender, basting occasionally with sauce. Remove to a plate and allow to rest. Remove excess sauce from slow cooker, draining off any fat. Serve brisket in thick slices, cut across the grain, with sauce spooned over.
Recipe Notes
- Serve slices of brisket alongside coleslaw and potato salad, or pop them in a crusty bread roll for a beautiful brisket burger.
- You could enhance the smokiness by adding a few drops of liquid smoke to the slow cooker - available in delis and barbecue stores.
