A delicious, fruity and old-style dessert suitable for gatherings and get-togethers. I have made this apple crumble a couple of times and people often ask for the recipe.
Ingredients
- 6 Granny Smith apples large
- 2 tbs white sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
Crust
- 115 g butter
- 2 tbs white sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup custard powder
Crumble
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 1/4 cups plain flour
- 1/3 cup shredded coconut
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
Method

Step 1Preheat the oven to 190C.

Step 2To make the filling, boil the apples with enough water to cover. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 3Drain the apples and allow to cool.

Step 4Pour over sugar sprinkle the cinnamon powder onto the apples.

Step 5To make the crust, in a bowl, whip together the butter and white sugar until fluffy and mix in the egg. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and custard powder together.

Step 6Mix into the butter mixture. Press it into the bottom and up the sides of a 22cm spring form pan.

Step 7Pour the apples into the crust.

Step 8To make the crumble, mix all the crumble ingredients together using your hands, until it resembles crumbs.

Step 9Bake for 45 minutes to an hour or until golden brown.

Recipe Notes
Add in more cinnamon if you love the taste!
The apple crumble can be served with ice cream, or whipped cream.
