Winners of Home Cook Hero Winter Dessert competition

Congratulations to our Home Cook Hero winner Cheryl (cheza68) for her Upside Down Banana-Maple Custard Cake recipe. She's won $1,000 and her recipe will be published in an upcoming issue of Super Food Ideas magazine. 

What we loved about Cheryl's cake is the match of caramelised bananas with maple syrup sauce. The custard in the cake batter gives the cake a lovely moist crumb. In fact, we couldn't stop at just one bite and had to finish the entire slice. 

Cheryl said "this is a family favourite at our home during the cold winter months, the flavours of banana and maple syrup go perfectly and with the addition of custard incorporated into the cake batter gives the cake a decadent moistness and extra delicious flavour!"

A big congratulations Tania (MyKitchenStories) as the winner of the Best Use of Custard bonus prize for her Chocolate, Butterscotch and Raspberry Self Saucing Pudding recipe. Tania has won a KitchenAid prize pack valued at $1507, thanks to Pauls Double Thick French Vanilla Custard.  

Our judges thought using thick chocolate custard in place of water gave the self-saucing pudding a rich, decadent flavour. It's definitely a trick our judges will be trying again. We could see you serving this indulgent dessert at a family dinner, placing in the middle of the table and giving everyone a spoon!
