Ingredients

  • 2 cup dates finely chopped
  • 2 cup walnuts
  • 125 g dark chocolate chopped
  • 6 egg whites
  • 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 300 ml cream

Method

  • Step 1
    Grease a 26 cm springform tin and line base with baking paper.
  • Step 2
    Combine dates, chocolate and walnuts in large bowl.
  • Step 3
    In a small mixer bowl, beat eggwhites until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar.
  • Step 4
    Fold meringue mixture into chocolate mixture. Spoon into pan.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 180C for 35 minutes, covering with foil if necessary to prevent over browning. Cool in tin.
  • Step 6
    Spread with whipped cream before serving, and decorate with strawberries.

Equipment

  • 1 24cm springform pan
Recipe Notes

The torte can be made the day before it is needed and stored in an airtight container.

You can also grate the dark chocolate.
