A totally delicious dessert – decidedly wicked – and it’s so quick and easy to make, too! These loaded bananas are done in the oven, but you could easily pop them on a barbecue plate if you’re out and about, or in the coals of a camp fire. Yum!
How to make Flake-baked bananas: key tips
When slicing into your bananas, use a small sharp knife and be careful that you don’t cut right through to the other side or too close to the ends. Just make the slit large enough that you can easily fill it with your chocolate.
Insert the Flakes and then wrap your filled banana in foil, folding the edges of the foil over to seal the parcel. Take particular note of which way your banana is facing – you need it chocolate-side up or the chocolate will just pour out of the banana as it melts. Cook the parcels until the banana is heated all the way through and has softened slightly, and the chocolate is all melted.
The bananas and chocolate will be super hot at the end of the cooking time, so set them aside (unwrapped, if you like) for about 10 minutes, so that you serve them warm but not hot. You don’t want to scald anyone, particularly the kids!
Key ingredients in this Flake-baked bananas recipe
Choose firm ripe bananas for this dessert, as you’ll want them to maintain their shape when heated, but also taste lovely and sweet.
Flakes are soft and quite crumbly, and so they melt very easily in the bananas. You can also try this dessert with other chocolates (see the notes below the recipe).
My guess is that you will also love these easy honey cinnamon bananas, and fun banana fritter balls.

Recipe Notes
What can I serve these Flake-baked bananas with?
If you’re after something simple, then vanilla ice-cream or whipped cream would do nicely – with or without a drizzle of chocolate sauce or your topping of choice. However, if you’re wanting something a little fancier, then a dollop of crème fraîche and a dusting of cocoa would be lovely, or a quenelle of vanilla bean ice-cream and a generous drizzle of raspberry coulis to complement the chocolate and cut through the sweetness. Really, you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose.
Can I change up the chocolate in these Flake-baked bananas?
There is no reason why you can’t! Try the same method using mini Mars bars, Snickers, Crunchie, Turkish Delight or Cherry Ripe, for example. If you don’t want to use a chocolate bar, you could use pieces of block chocolate in dark, milk, white or Caramilk.
