Ingredients

  • 6 orange
  • 2 orange rind thinly sliced
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice

Method

  • Step 1
    Chop the orange peel and extract the juice from the oranges.
  • Step 2
    Boil the juice and peels together in a heavy base saucepan.
  • Step 3
    Add sugar and lemon juice, and allow to boil.
  • Step 4
    Fold in all the pits and the pulp of oranges in a muslin cloth and tie tightly.
  • Step 5
    Immerse the muslin bag into the orange syrup.
  • Step 6
    Cook for about 30 minutes at medium heat.
  • Step 7
    Remove the muslin bag, let it cool. Squeeze the juice out of the muslin cloth and add it to the remaining juice in the pan.
  • Step 8
    Pour the cooled orange syrup into a sterile jar and refrigerate overnight.
  • Step 9
    Boil the mixture again until it forms into a thin gel-like consistency.
  • Step 10
    Pour back into a sterile jar and refrigerate.

Equipment

  • 1 muslin
  • 1 glass jar with lid
Recipe Notes

To sterilise the jar, wash it in the dish washer. Store for about 2 weeks in a refrigerator.
