Ingredients

  • 125 g butter
  • 4 tbs golden syrup
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 225 g rolled oats
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Method

  • Step 1
Melt butter and golden syrup and add other ingredients.
  • Step 2
Mix well and press into an oiled 20 cm shallow tin.
  • Step 3
Preheat oven to 150C and bake 30-40 minutes. Lower temperature makes it moist and chewy while baking a few minutes longer will make a firm, crisper product.
  • Step 4
    Remove and stand 5 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Carefully cut into bars.
  • Step 6
Leave until lukewarm before removing. Flapjack is fragile while hot and will be too firm to remove when cold.
Recipe Notes
Substitute natural or toasted muesli for all of the rolled oats. Up to a quarter of the rolled oats can be substituted with desiccated coconut. Butter can be reduced to 80 g and 2 tablespoons peanut butter added. Add up to 60 g dried fruits, nuts, seeds or mini choc-chips.
