Ingredients

  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 1 cup flour
  • 375ml beer
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • oil for frying

Method

  • Step 1
    Peel onion, then cut into slices and separate rings.

    Coat onion rings in flour and set aside.
  • Step 3
    Combine flour, beer, salt and pepper, and mix until combined.
  • Step 4
    Heat oil. Once oil is hot, coat the onion rings in the batter mix just before you add them to the oil.
  • Step 5
    Cook until golden, turning as needed. Drain on paper towel.
  • Step 6
    Salt, serve and enjoy.
Recipe Notes

Leftover batter can be put in the fridge to use the next day.

The beer batter can be used with onion rings, fish, chicken, or whatever you like.

Tips to convert this recipe to cook in an air fryer

Gently shake off any excess batter, dip in a bowl of oil then lay in an airfryer basket and cook until crispy and golden.
