This is my Nana's recipe. It's not too difficult and tastes delicious, especially with custard smothered over the top!
Ingredients
- 120 g butter softened
- 1 cup self-raising flour
- 4 tbs sugar
- 2 egg
- 1/2 cup milk *optional
- 500 g granny smith apple cored cored peeled roughly chopped
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch sugar *extra
Method

Step 1Preheat oven to 180C and grease 20cm cake pan.

Step 2In a saucepan boil apples with approximately 1 cup of water until apples are soft. Drain water then mash apples. Drain excess liquid from mashed apples.

Step 3Cream butter and sugar, add egg then sift in the flour and mix lightly.

Step 4Spread half the mixture in the prepared pan. Cover with apple and rest of mixture. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Cook for 1 hour.

Step 5Serve with custard.
