Ingredients

  • 2 tbs vegetable oil
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 3 cup basmati rice
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 sprig thyme
  • 4 1/2 cup water

Method

  • Step 1
    Heat the oil over medium heat in a large, heavy-based saucepan. Fry onion until soft, then add the turmeric and mix well.
  • Step 2
    Add the rice and stir to coat. Add the herbs and water. Season to taste.
  • Step 3
    Transfer the mixture to a baking dish with a fitted lid.
  • Step 4
    Cover and bake at 180C for 30 minutes.
